Wind turbines used on wind farms are typically megawatt-scale turbines that are capable of generating significant amounts of energy for distribution through public electrical infrastructure.

Because wind is an intermittent renewable energy source, a stable grid and good grid management is crucial to ensuring that wind-generated electricity can be effectively distributed and consumed. Grids connected to systems capable of storing energy can be much more effective for wind power distribution because storage systems can help to normalize some of the peaks and valleys that occur in the daily electrical demand of a population. Examples of these storage systems include electric thermal storage systems for space heating, and batteries such as those found in electric-powered vehicles.

The MODD have been operating an 800 kw wind turbine at Mt. Pleasant for a few years now.  The Enercon E48 has produced approximately ten million kilowatt hours of clean green energy.  At the moment NSP purchases all the energy that is produced from the unit.
